Hello, I am the practice director and I am reposing to your Google review that you posted today. We are very distressed about your allegations of our physiotherapist Simon Mew being a racist, which I will attest to that it is absolutely false and which we point out is considered hate speech under Google's Review Policy. I have employed Simon for 10 years and have never had anyone suggest such an untrue and hateful allegation. Accusing someone with a professional degree and of not knowing "how to do physiotherapy: and of "caressing" them is also false, inflammatory and accusatory and we completely refute your allegations in these regards also.

I have discussed your case with Simon and I know from his treatment style that his phone was not in his pocket as it is kept in our therapists offices when we are in treatment sessions with our patients at all times. He wears an iwatch that, is turned off but that sometimes vibrates when notifications from his child's school come in. That doesn't mean that he is reading any messages and he was certainly not playing on his phone. In the initial & subsequent treatment's we ascertain what strength the patient is comfortable with when treating them with hands on physiotherapy/ we point out that the physio's are not remedial massage therapists and treatment techniques will vary. Sometimes when doing trigger point therapy around the neck and upper back a single hand can be used to treat and there is nothing wrong or unprofessional with this approach.

Whilst it appears you were very disappointed with your treatment instead of talking to the physio in or after your session or even asking to speak with the practice director if you thought something was not helpful to your recovery from headaches, you made hateful assumptions and false allegations of our therapist instead. We always highly welcome in treatment feedback if something is not comfortable or if you feel a different pressure is going to help. Simon also reports that he provided you with some after treatment advice & whilst it might not have been strengthening or stretching exercises at this point in your treatment that that doesn't mean the other advice was not warranted. Treatment is very specific to each individual and general stretching is often not helpful, we offer a more tailored treatment approach that does include exercises but it can be contraindicated to add lots of different therapy and exercises all at once.

We ask that you take a thorough read of the words I have written and ask as a courtesy to you for you to remove the review from this profile effective immediately and refrain from making any further inflammatory, hateful or false allegations about Simon or City Physiotherapy in general..

Hi Selwyn, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review of your experience at City Physiotherapy. I am always happy to receive feedback and to improve our patient satisfaction. I have been in business for 28 years and have built a very good reputation with many satisfied and happy patients over that time. As such I am a little confused though about your recollection of only receiving 20 mins as all of our new patient initial booking times are at least 30 minutes in duration unless our patients arrive late to the clinic. We ask & inform that all new patients arrive at least 5 minutes early to fill in health screening and patient information forms so that the appointments can commence on time. We strive to always be running on time and cannot extend treatment times if the session comments late as it will affect the next patients treatment session which I am sure you will understand. Occasionally we run a few minutes late if there is something complex going on but this is the exception rather than the rule at City Physiotherapy. We provide a professional service as registered health professionals and assess, diagnose, provide treatment and follow-up advice for our patients. The time this takes between each patient will obviously vary somewhat as each person is an individual and will require bespoke and varied treatments which may be shorter or longer in duration. The outcomes of a professional physiotherapy session do not get minimised or heightened by the number of minutes each treatment lasts for. I do not know the individual circumstances of your arrival time to the clinic for your appointment and therefore can only surmise that late arrival may have been a factor if your treatment was shorter than half an hour.As for the cost, we offer very generous fees of $69 for an initial consultation for those people who do not have health insurance cover. We know that not all people can afford health insurance nor expensive treatments and if you look around you will see that the cost of an initial consultation elsewhere for someone with no cover is up to double this dollar amount. We have always kept this fee low so that as many people as possible can gain access to quality healthcare. We are though registered health professionals in a private setting who offer a professional service and as such we do need to charge for our services.We do want to help all of our patients and I'd like extend you an offer of returning to the clinic for a subsequent consultation at our subsequent consultation rate to book in with the director, Linda Shacklock who will spend time with you going over your particular Physiotherapy health concerns. You will need to let our friendly reception know that you have had direct communication from me on this matter should you wish to take me up on this offer. Dear V, I am writing to respond to your review of our clinic and I am apologetic that your found your experience to be as you described. As the owner of the clinic I take all feedback seriously and want you to know that I have spoken to both the physio who treated you and the admin staff who spoke with you in order to gain an overall picture of your issue. I understand that your particular pain has been present for more than 2.5 years and as such is considered a chronic pain issue. Along with your pain you are of course foremost a person and your pain impacts all areas of your life from work, social, hobbies, activities of daily living, sleep, relationships etc. Living with pain and not finding solutions after years is difficult, costly and frustrating and all of these factors feed back into your pain experience as the nervous system receives all input, not just select input. We understand where you are coming from. Most often these longer term pain problems take longer to respond to treatment and will take time to resolve or minimise. This is because the nervous system has become sensitised to all stimulation in a heightened way, even light touch is often painful when the nervous system is sensitised. I understand that the hands on treatments/ mobilisations you received were uncomfortable and that after discussion with you dry needling therapy was used. This accesses the nervous system directly and over time can assist in calming down the heightened and irritated nervous system that is present in chronic pain. Dry Needling as well as hands on treatments will usually cause some kind of initial irritation before settling of pain can occur. This is because the movements or the stimulation is sending pain signals to the brain, the brain responds with an inflammatory response which is the way it is designed to initiate healing. A persons pain experience is complex and it is affected by many things. Clear and effective communication between the therapist and patient is crucial to tailoring a treatment or modifying a treatment to effect the best possible outcome for you. We, as treating practitioners, can only go by what feedback a patient provides so that we can make those changes and offer the best advice for at home management also.I do know that the receptionist who you spoke to offered to speak to the physio who treated you about your issue and suggested that they would want to know about your call. She did say that you couldn't speak to them right then and there as they were treating other patients at the time and understandably, we can't interrupt other patients treatments with lengthy phone calls. That would not be fair on the person receiving treatment at the time. I am sure you wouldn't have appreciated that either. I do know that the physio did call you back twice on the same day on a break and at the end of the day to talk to you. They left you a voice message as you did not answer either of the phone calls. They are still more than happy to talk to you and offered for you to ring the clinic back and leave them a message to call you back at a convenient time. We really want to make a different to your pain and feel that we can help you. Something that is complex will not be simple to resolve in a few sessions. We say this because it is true and for no other reason. It would be unprofessional for anyone to advise you that a complex chronic pain problem could be fixed in a couple of sessions. We understand that physio can be expensive and that is why as you have no private health insurance we offer you and others a heavily discounted rate for physio treatment at our clinic is compared to most others. We are health professionals and as such we do need to charge a reasonable fee for service just like any other professional, such as your GP or other service providers. We hope this explanation now provides you with more clarity and we ask that you consider removing the 1 star review given. Thank you Linda Shacklock.

Hi there, we are really super glad that you are feeling better after your physio treatment at City Physiotherapy. It sounds like the dry needling that you received helped to relax your muscles after eliciting a twitch response. For anyone interested to know more, this usually indicates that we have targeted the dry needle to the centre of the tight muscles fibres or trigger point. This can really help to relax a tight muscle and trigger a chemical response in your brain to produce pain relief and a relaxation response via your nervous system. Essentially it is pain relief without drugs so that is pretty cool too. Many people think that it is going to hurt a lot but that isn't the case the majority of the time - it just feels different when your muscle is moving involuntarily in response to the dry needling.

Hi William, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you feel as though you needed to leave without having your appointment today. I have had a chat to both my reception staff and your treating Physiotherapist about the issue that you have brought up and wanted to clarify what seems to be a misunderstanding. It is true that an elderly couple in their 70's had arrived late for the one of their two scheduled appointments and you had arrived early for your appointment. The couple were taken into a treatment room together, as that is what they would normally do and expect to gfo in together, and one of them was not late for their appointment. Your Physiotherapist was at that time not aware that you had arrived early for your end off day appointment.We understand that our patients have things to do, lead busy lives and their time is valuable and hence we always endeavor to keep on time to the best of our ability whilst giving you the best possible care and treatment. This is why our receptionist had tried to call you to see if you may have preferred to come in for your appointment 15 minutes later once realising the couple had missed one appointment of their scheduled two appoitntments. At almost the same time she then realised that you were at the entrance to our clinic about a quarter of an hour earlier than your scheduled time. We really appreciate patients being on time as I'm sure you appreciate us running on time too.Our receptionist informed me that she had explained to you that the couple would go in together, as explained they alwayse do, and that you were then disatisified with not being taken into your appointment some 13 minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment time, saying you felt you should take priority as you were at the clinic for your appointment quite early and one of them was late. I can understand that you did not want to wait any longer than necessary, however, one of the couple was not late and we could not overrule someone else's appointment time because you were early. It appears that you were unsatisfied with not being taken in early and assumed you would be kept waiting if they were both treated. Please let me explain further as keeping our patients happy is a priority of CIty Physiotherapy's.I was then informed that you then got up and left before my receptionsit could alert the treating Physiotherapist that you were indeed on time for you appointment and preferred to not wait any longer than necesary. She did not get this opportunity to alert your Physiotherapist as you had left the clinic even before your allocated appointment time was due.What could have happened was that if you hadn't left so suddenly and immediately given us a 1 star google review, assuming you were to be kept waiting a long time, was that she would have spoken to the Physiotherapist and even though one of the couple was receiving treatment, you could have then kept your appointment time, received your treatment and the person from the couple that had missed their appointment could have been treated after you. I hope that you will understand that this was a misunderstanding and that we hope that you will take up the opportunity to reschedule your appointment with us so we can make up any dissatisfaction that you have. We would also hope that you can see that we had never intended to not keep your appointment running on time as much as possible, that after 25 years of business and service to the people of Adelaide, we value our patients and their time and hope that you will remove your 1-star review.Thank you for your consideration and time and we hope to see you soon at the clinic. Dear Vico, I am very sorry that you felt like the Physio had let you down today by needing to reschedule your appointment. Please let me explain. The Physiotherapist that you had an appointment with needed to leave at short notice as his wife was going into hospital with a medical emergency that had occured this afternoon. We wouldn't reschedule any patients unless there was a genuine reason. Our receptionist did send you a text to let you know we needed to reschedule as soon as we knew we had to and I believe offered you an appointment with another one of our Physiotherapists within a half an hour of your orginal appointment time. I believe you indicated that this time wasn't suitable for you today. Unfortunately we didn't have anyone that could offer you the exact same time as you had originally booked. Yes the health booking systems that are on offer only allow for a one way text service and that is why you would have been informed that a phone call was the best way to communicate with us for a two way conversation. As we were dealing with needing to reschedule a few patients today due to the hospital emergency of our Physiotherapists wife we may have not have explained this all to you in as much detail on the phone as I am now. I would like to offer you an appointment tomorrow or at another time if you are able to come in at a time that is mutually agreeable. We pride ourselves in providing excellent quality physiotherapy services and your one star review is certainly harsh given that we cannot control medical emergencies. I am asking if you would please consider removing your review as you now have a better picture of why we needed to reschedule your appoitment today and take up my offer to treat you as the director of our pratice personally or with a physiotherapsit of your choice at the practice.
